Later in life she ran a small weekend antiques business, Brickley Bygones.3 Joan Mary Hortin died on 28 January 2002 at Lewisham Hospital in Lewisham, London, at age 81 of a brain haemorrhage, which developed following a successful hip operation.4 She was cremated on 7 February 2002 at Beckenham Crematorium in Kent.4 |

Edward James Hughes was Roman Catholic. Edward James Hughes graduated on 23 June 1937 from Central Catholic High School in Troy, New York. On 7 October 1940, Edward enlisted in the United States Army and went through officer training. He served in Hawaii during WWII. Towards the end of the war and for a few months afterwards he was stationed at Camp Reynolds in Greenville, Pennsylvania. On 3 November 1945, he was discharged at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania.2 On 17 June 1944, Edward James Hughes married Irene Karl, daughter of Maurice George Karl and Philomena Anna Hartman, in Warren, Ohio.3 The marriage ceremony began at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. The maid of honor was the bride's sister Elizabeth, and the best man was the bride's brother Robert. Rev. Joseph A. Gaiganski performed the ceremony, and Miss Louise Knowles played the organ. A wedding breakfast for the immediate families was held at the bride's home; that evening, a reception for 75 relatives and friends was held at the Karl home, where Miss Margaret Moran and Mrs. Charles H. Bode, Jr., presided at the bridal table.3 Edward James Hughes was a member of the military; after leaving the armed forces, he became a drug store clerk and later a pharmacist. Edward James Hughes graduated on 1 June 1954 from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, with a bachelor's degree in pharmacy. In 1979, Edward suffered a cerebral hemorrhage caused by an aneurysm. Two brain surgeries corrected that aneurysm as well as another one revealed by x-ray.3 Edward James Hughes died on 19 November 1994 at St. Petersburg General Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, at age 75 of pneumonia complicated by chronic emphysema.4 He was buried on 22 November 1994 in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, which is located in Clearwater, Florida. |
