James Frederick Ogles was a member of the Church of England.3 He was also known as Jimmy.3 On 12 April 1923, when James was 3 years and 7 months old, his father, James Frederick Ogles, died of consumption.5,4 James Frederick Ogles was a messenger boy after leaving school about the age of 14 at Law's Chemical Factory in Barking, Essex.4 James Frederick Ogles was a gas fitter (until he was called up for service with the Territorial Army in World War II) at Beckton Gas Works.4 He had joined the Territorial Army in his spare time whilst employed at the gas works.4 James Frederick Ogles began military service circa 1939 in England.3 On 26 September 1939, James Frederick Ogles married Elsie Cook, daughter of Edward Cook and Jane (--?--), at the registry office in Ilford, Essex.3,4 James Frederick Ogles ended military service circa 1944 in England.3 James Frederick Ogles was a bus conductor on a red double-decker bus, whose route used to take him to Upney where he would let his little sister Joy get on for free at London Bus Transport.4 James Frederick Ogles was employed (probably unloading wood from the barges) at Storer's Woodyard in Barking, Essex.4 Jimmy was fond of Jim Reeves, a country singer.3 Throughout his life, Jimmy loved animals and kept budgies, chicken, and rabbits as pets as an adult in the garden in Oban Road, Barking, Essex. In his childhood he had had a dog. Also when living at 73 Lambourne Road in Barking he still kept some budgies. His wife Elsie does not recall exactly what happened to the chickens and supposed that they (along with the rabbits) must have been eaten.3,4 James Frederick Ogles was retired in 1974 Barking, Essex, Essex.4 His nephew Dale recalls his uncle Jimmy always having a joke and a smile for him and his brothers when they visited. He could roll his own cigarettes (roll-ups) in one hand (maybe because of his thumb injury during WWII?), but he always told his nephews not to smoke when when he was rolling up in front of them.3 James Frederick Ogles died on 14 March 1986 at home, at age 66 of emphysema.6,2,4,7 He was buried in Upney Cemetery, which is located in Barking, Essex.3,4 |
