Edith Jane Clementson, daughter of Frederick Clementson and Alice Mary Tite, was born on 31 May 1899 in England.
Edith Jane Clementson was a member of the Church of England. Edith Jane Clementson attended school for a few years but probably left at about twelve or thirteen years of age. Edith Jane Clementson married James Frederick Ogles. On 12 April 1923 her husband James died at St. Ann's Road, Barking, Essex, of consumption, leaving Edith a widow at 23 years old.2,3 Edith Jane Clementson married Frank Bone. Edith Jane Clementson was an employee at William Warne; she cured rubber products. In later years Edith developed bronchitis, probably due to the environment of packing rubber products. To get to her job, she would leave home about 6 a.m. and not finish until about 6 p.m.4 For additional income during the war, Edith used to clean houses.4 Joy recalls that Edith's parents, her Gran & Pop [Frederick & Alice Mary], used to come in the mornings to help Joy get ready for school, as her mum had already gone to work. They lived a bus ride away on St. Ann's Road in Barking. Joy walked to school on her own. Edith made boiled beef & carrots, pease pudding, and spotted dick. On Sundays she did all the ironing and washing. Doris helped clean the house. Her daughter Joy recalls that she always used to buy Joy shoes, and at Easter time they always had new clothes and would dye eggs. When Joy was about 13 years old, Edith won a goose in a raffle. For a while they kept the goose in the garden, but Joy doesn't remember what finally happened to it.4 Edith Jane Clementson was retired circa 1959.4 Edith Jane Clementson died on 8 July 1976 at King George's Hospital in Ilford, Essex, England, at age 77 of pneumonia contracted while in the hospital.. Edith suffered from Parkinson's, which had caused her to trip and fracture her shoulder blade, necessitating the stay in the hospital. King George's Hospital has been partly demolished since then to make room for new houses.3,5 She was buried in Upney Cemetery, which is located in Barking, Essex. |
