Cordelia was the 2nd oldest of five boys and five girls born to a farmer in Youngstown, Ohio. She had a very strong Catholic faith.

There is a John Steinbaugh listed in Books & Shoes at 11 North Broadway in New Philadelphia, Ohio, in 1878 (according to the 1878 Directory of Tuscarawas and Carroll Counties, Ohio).1,2

Cordelia Steinbaugh married Louis E. Karl, son of Philip F. Karl and Mary Ann Strubel.

She was also known as Cora.

On 12 October 1917, her son Alvin died at the age of 5 years. Alvin's brother Russell says that he was hit by a truck.3,4

Louis E. Karl and Cordelia Steinbaugh, along with their children Jerome Karl, Mary Josephine Karl and Russell T. Karl, moved in 1923 to Los Angeles, California, from Ohio. They were seeking a better climate that would have a beneficial effect on Cora's health. Initially the family lived with Edna Steinbaugh (either Cora's sister or sister-in-law).5,6,2,7

Louis E. Karl and Cordelia Steinbaugh were listed in Mary Josephine Karl's obituary on 31 March 1939 in an unidentified California newspaper, as her parents.5

On 23 April 1799, Catharina Elisabeth Stollhofer married Jacob Karl in Rockenhausen, Donnersbergkreis, Bayern (Bavaria), Germany.4 Witnesses were Louis --?-- and Karl Stollhoffer, both from Wurzweiler, and one Henry Gebell from ?kammer.4 Catharina Elisabeth Stollhofer witnessed the baptism of Elizabeth Karl on 28 January 1800 in Wurzweiler near Rockenhausen, Donnersbergkreis, Bayern (Bavaria), Germany.5

In June 1800, her daughter Elizabeth died at the age of 4 months.6

Catharina Elisabeth Stollhofer and Jacob Karl were "farming people" in Wurzweiler.7,8

Before January 1836 Catharina Elisabeth Stollhofer died, leaving Jacob a widower.9

     Mary Ann Strubel was born in December 1855 in Ohio.2

On 10 October 1878, Mary Ann Strubel married Philip F. Karl, son of Johann Georg Ludwig Karl and Catharine Elisabeth Rentz, in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.3,1

Philip and Mary had a daughter, Adela M., on 22 August 1879 in Canal Dover, Ohio.4,5

Philip and Mary had a son, Harry B., in September 1882 in Ohio.6,7

Philip and Mary had a son, Louis E., on 4 June 1883 in Ohio.3,8

On 25 July 1902, her son Harry B. died of typhoid fever at the age of 19 years and 10 months.13,14,15,16

Mary Ann Strubel died on 18 May 1912 at age 56.17,18,2 She was buried in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, which is located in Dover, Ohio.14,19
