Sara I. was listed as a daughter in the 1880 US Federal Census, enumerated 3 June 1880, in the household of John Kenefick and Bridget, of Steubenville (Fifth Ward), Jefferson County, Ohio. They lived at Sherman Avenue. Sarah (Sadie) was recorded as seven years old and attending school.4 Sarah Isabella Kenefick was a domestic (cleaned houses) and also a midwife. In 1897, Sarah Isabella Kenefick married John Jeffrey McCullough, son of Charles John McCullough and Sarah Jane Jeffrey, in Steubenville, Ohio.5,6 John and Sadie were married by a Catholic priest but not in a church (their daughter Kitty Lou believes they may have been married at the priest's home), since John had not converted to Catholicism.7 Sadie was listed as the wife of John Jeffrey McCullough in the 1900 US Federal Census of Steubenville, Jefferson County (Steubenville Township), Ohio, enumerated 5 June 1900. He had been seen by a doctor four days prior to his death.10 In June 1926 her husband John died at age 57 in Steubenville, of bronchopneumonia at 8:30 in the evening, leaving Sadie a widow at 53 years old. He had been ill for a little while, but once he caught the pneumonia he was dead within three days.5,11,12 On 21 January 1931, her brother Thomas died of a "cerebral abscess" that had probably been caused by an infection in his teeth at the age of 56 years, 5 months and 29 days. The date of onset of the abscess was 5 Jan 1931, two weeks before his death. He died at 7 a.m. at home.13,14,15 On 29 July 1941 Sadie died in Steubenville, at age 68 of "carcinoma of omentum [a fold of the peritoneum connecting the abdominal viscera with the stomach] & stomach". The underlying cause was "carcinoma of left breast", for which she had undergone an operation to remove the cancer the year before. She died at 6:45 p.m. in her own home.16 She was buried on 2 August 1941 in Union Cemetery, which is located in Steubenville, Ohio.17,16 |

The appointment was made by the Commissioner of Education for the State of New Jersey, Dr. Fredrick Rauginer. During his career, he received "two grants from the National Science Foundation for radiation studies and their effects on plants and animals and has undertaken this work at Tuskegee Institute and follow-up work at Rutgers University."7 Terrence Patrick Kenefick died on 6 May 1983 at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, at age 62.8,9 He was buried in Steubenville, Ohio.4 |
