They lived at North Seventh Street, None of the children are listed as having attended school within the census year. The family was probably not in good financial straits as both Charles and his 11-year-old son John are listed as being out of work for the previous six months.13 On 30 September 1891, her daughter Esthella O. died of inflammation of the bowels. She had become ill a week before her death and had been in great pain.14,15 Mrs. Charles McCullough and Mrs. Edwin Mills were listed in John Jeffrey's obituary on 2 March 1894 in the Steubenville Weekly Gazette (Steubenville, Ohio), as his surviving daughters.16 Mrs. Chas. McConnell and Mrs. Edward Mills were listed in Jane Weaver's obituary in August 1896 Steubenville, Ohio, as her surviving daughters.17 Sarah was listed as the wife of Charles McCullough Jr. in the 1900 US Federal Census of Steubenville, Jefferson County (Steubenville Township), Ohio, enumerated 1 June 1900. They lived at 722 Franklin Avenue, a house owned free and clear of a mortgage (although the census schedule is hard to read).18 She is recorded as having borne five children, only four of whom were still living.18 On 14 December 1909 her husband Charles died at age 75 at 904 Wabash Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, of pleuro-pneumonia, also called "lobar pneumonia", with which he had fallen ill four days previously. He died at 12:20 a.m. while visiting his daughter Jennie.2,19,20 Sarah Jane Jeffrey died on 4 May 1910 in Steubenville, Ohio, of acute indigestion.3,6 |
