[S379] Rheinland-Pfalz: Rhineland-Palatinate, the History, online http://www.genealogienetz.de/reg/RHE-PFA/rhein-p-his.html. A copy was printed and is in possession of the researcher. The source includes a paragraph noting that some east-bank (of the Rhine River) lands were granted to Bavaria in 1815 after Napoleon's defeat; these lands were "not territorially contiguous with [Bavaria]. . . . After 1836, it was known as the Bayrische Pfalz. After 1838 it was known variously as the Rheinpfalz (Palatinate) or Rheinbayern or simply Pfalz." My father and I believe that the place "Rein Bein" listed in the 1860 census is simply a garbled version of "RheinBayern".
