James J. Daugherty was Roman Catholic. Circa 1921, James J. Daugherty married Mary Alice McCullough, daughter of John Jeffrey McCullough and Sarah Isabella Kenefick, in Girard.2,4 James J. Daugherty was a storekeeper of Dock's Dairy Store, which was near his home, in 1945.3,5 On 8 August 1950 James died in Girard, at age 51 of a sudden heart attack (possibly related to his diabetes condition), leaving Mary a widow. He died in his own home at 6:30 in the evening.2,3 His body was taken to the Blackstone Funeral Home at 104 E. Liberty Street for visiting Wednesday and Thursday evenings. In 1950 when his father died, James was a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton in California. James was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard, Ohio, and was also on the Girard Council Knights of Columbus. After seeing action as a Marine during the Korean War, James worked for the Hill-Hubbel Works until he became ill. Although he fell ill at age 25 and died five years later in a nursing home in Youngstown, Ohio, his address in the obituary is listed as his parents': 13 W. Kline St., Girard, Ohio.5,4 On 8 August 1950, when James was 21 years, 7 months and 29 days old, his father, James J. Daugherty, died of a sudden heart attack (possibly related to his diabetes condition) at the age of 51. He died in his own home at 6:30 in the evening.1,5 James McCullough Daugherty died on 7 March 1959 at the Delp Nursing Home in Youngstown, Ohio, at age 30.
